Dr. Dimitroulias Presents Continuing Education Program

Offers update on knee and hip replacement surgery

Lock Haven, PA – As part of the ongoing, Continuing Medical Education programs for the medical staff at Lock Haven Hospital, Apostolos Dimitroulias, MD, orthopedic surgeon, delivered a presentation entitled, New Trends in Hip and Knee Arthroplasty: Smaller Incisions and Less Metal.

Dr. Dimitroulias discussed the differences in approaches to total knee arthroplasty (replacement) and the trend toward smaller incisions, sparring of the quadriceps muscle, which can aide in an early recovery. He gave an overview of the use of computer navigation in the surgical process.

Dr. Dimitroulias also covered the advantages and disadvantages of the various procedures for total hip arthroplasty (replacement) including patient selection, current data studies of patient outcomes and the potential positives and negatives for hip resurfacing procedures.

“Being able to offer full spectrum orthopedic care, from children through adults, by fellowship trained orthopedic surgeons is a great benefit to the local community,” said Cindy Segar-Miller, chief executive officer, Lock Haven Hospital. “Patients suffering; and  in need of knee and hip replacement surgery, no longer need to travel to get complete treatment, from surgery through follow up physical therapy.”

Dr. Dimitroulias was fellowship trained in orthopedic trauma at the Department of Orthopedic Surgery, Allegheny General Hospital, Pittsburgh and in Adult Reconstruction at the Division of Orthopedic Surgery, Duke University Medical Center, Durham, NC

Dr. Dimitroulias and the Haven Orthopedics team are accepting new patients and are available to consult with patient’s primary care providers. The office can be contacted at 570-893-5330 for more information or to schedule an appointment.
