 Dr. Islam Presentation Highlights Haven Vascular Center

 Lock Haven, PA – As part of the ongoing, Continuing Medical Education programs at Lock Haven Hospital, Mohammed Islam, MD, delivered a presentation entitled, Minimally Invasive Surgery for Limb Salvage, to the medical staff at the hospital.

In introducing the program, Jacqui Conklin, the Director of Quality and Regulatory Compliance at Lock Haven Hospital noted that the event highlighted the services available at the Haven Vascular Center. “The fact that we can offer this service locally and people will not have to travel for this kind of treatment, is a big bonus to the Lock Haven Community,” concluded Conklin.

“The patient benefit, from the type of procedures we can offer, is a better quality of life and improved life expectancy,” said Cindy Segar-Miller, CEO of Lock Haven Hospital. Segar-Miller said the goal is for Lock Haven Hospital to become the regions only accredited vascular treatment center.

During his presentation Dr. Islam spoke about the peripheral arterial disease (PAD) and vein problems suffered by nearly 20 million people in the United States that goes largely untreated. “We have the staff, training and technology in place to diagnosis and treat patients suffering from these vascular conditions right here at Lock Haven Hospital,” said Islam. “It’s a new ball game, we can do everything right here.”

Dr. Islam outlined the minimally invasive procedures which are performed under local anesthetic and the often immediate relief patients experienced. Islam also spoke about the collaborative treatment efforts involving a variety of specialties in the diagnosis, treatment and rehabilitation of patients.
