Lock Haven Hospital Hosts Annual Mammothon
Lock Haven, PA – Staffers from Lock Haven Hospital volunteered their time for the annual Mammothon, telethon to call over 600 area women to remind them to schedule an annual mammogram.
Mammathon volunteers contacted women over the age of 40, reminding them of the American Cancer Society recommendation to have an annual mammogram exam. Information on breast cancer detection, treatment and support groups was made available, as well as scheduling assistance.
Members of the Lock Haven University Women’s Swim team volunteered their time to the community service effort. “The Mammothon is a true team effort and we were excited to be a part of this potentially life saving project,” said Andy Waeger, head women’s swimming coach, Lock Haven University.
“The Mammothon allows us to not only proactively contact women and remind them of the importance of early detection, but also to work in concert with their primary care physician,” said Cindy Segar-Miller, chief executive officer, Lock Haven Hospital. “The efforts of the volunteers speaks volumes about the caring nature of our staff and the community as a whole.”

To learn more about scheduling an annual mammogram patients are encouraged to contact Haven Healthcare for Women at 570-893-5043, the American Cancer Society at 1-800-ACS-2345 or their primary care provider.
This program is partially funded by a Community Partnership Grant provided by the American Cancer Society Making Strides Against Breast Cancer (MSABC) event.
