Dr. Kurowski gave an overview of the various types of spinal cord stimulators, the power sources the devices use and the process and techniques for implanting the devices in patients. The spinal cord stimulator delivers minute pulses of electricity directly to nerves and help to mask pain signals to the brain, leaving suffering patients with the feeling that pain has been reduced.
Kurowski covered the multi-stage protocols that are utilized to identify, assess, and select patients who would benefit from the implantation of the spinal cord stimulators. The eight step process includes patient and family education, the implantation of a temporary stimulator lead for a trial period and a post-surgical trial screening and assessment to measure results.
“Dr. Kurowski brings a mix of top-notch, fellowship training and being a truly caring and compassionate physician, to treating suffering patients,” said Cindy Segar-Miller, chief executive officer, Lock Haven Hospital. “Those patients no longer need to suffer through grueling travel to receive relief and quality care; they can get it right here.”
Dr. Kurowski completed a Pain Medicine Fellowship at The Pennsylvania State University College of Medicine, Milton S. Hershey Medical Center, Hershey, PA. He is Board Certified by the American Board of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation. Dr. Kurowski completed his residency in physical medicine and rehabilitation at the Albert Einstein College of Medicine, Montefiore Medical Center.
